I know you take care of your skin, face, and teeth. What about your scalp?

We’ve never heard the term “head spa” in the U.S.   In fact, the term originated in Japan although the head spa concept is related to ancient Ayurveda philosophy.

The “Head Spa” is a place offering services to maintain the health of your scalp and hair. It usually includes a scalp and hair analysis, shampoo, scalp massage, hair treatment, neck/shoulder/décolleté massage, and hair brow.

 

The “scalp industry” is expected to grow into a 500 billion yen market in Japan. More men and women are concerned with hair damage and hair loss. It is caused not only by chemicals (coloring, perm, etc) and UV, but also by mental stress, food, and lack of sleep. In fact, the head is closer to the brain so it is easily damaged by stress. That’s where the “head spa” plays a major role.

Although existing spas and salons are incorporating “scalp treatment”, more “head spas” (exclusively offering head and scalp treatments) have opened up and it is becoming a huge business.
